BUT IT ISN'T... and even discussing the topic of "PTSD" is difficult to do in a way that those who are suffering can easily, or readily understand what I will be discussing.
In the late 1930's, there was a person named B.F. Skinner, and he was quite convinced that the MIND of Man is more fiction than fact.
Here we have a little blue box. Compare it to the larger dark blue square. The small square is what we know about Man... not very much actually. Take the MIND of Man, for example, or the Soul of Man, or Consciousness, or the faculty of Intuition... as compared to the physical structure of Man].
The reason we know so little about the MIND is... many parts of Man are Invisible to the brain and one's physical senses. And let us return to B.F. Skinner, via his own writing:
This is a quote of Skinner, found in a book written by Richard I. Evans. What Evans shares with us in his book tells us a great deal about Skinner. Mainly that Skinner knew nothing about the MIND, but his statement does tell us that Skinner was [quite unknown to himself] afraid of what his MIND held within it regarding his own early childhood. And his own statement tells us that he was simply sharing a non-conscious fear that virtually everyone has regarding what is hidden "within" the MIND. This fear is, of course, non-conscious.
Modern psychology has been quite successful in removing the "MIND" from the field of psychology... unbelievable? Yes, it is, however, "Intellectualism," has pretty much "physicalized" the field of psychology by ignoring the MIND...which began in the late 1930's, encouraged by Skinner.
Today, in 2025, modern psychology is essentially a study of the BEHAVIOR of Man. It has almost eliminated the idea of Man possessing a MIND that is the primary causal behind all of a person's thoughts and behaviors. The reason for this is most likely twofold. One, the MIND is invisible to the brain and one's physical senses, and two, the MIND determines what a person thinks [and thus tends to believe]. The MIND feeds the brain what I refer to as "Delusional Thinking", or "D-Think". And yes, this is hard to believe, or imagine! But it is nonetheless true!
Let me share a sketch in which I illustrate this separation of various elements of Man.
Please note that #1 represents the physical body and the brain [which is what we think with].
#2, #3, and #4 are all invisible to #1.
And the only part of Man I have discovered over the last 50 years that can provide glimpses of Man's Consciousness to oneself is one's "Conscious Awareness"... via one's faculty of "Intuition" (which I believe is an aspect of one's Soul).
So, the fact is, at least in the West, we do not spend much time thinking about the MIND.
