3/4ths of Man are "Invisible" to Man!
How does modern psychology deal with this problem? Well, they just do what B.F. Skinner did in the late 1930's, which was simply ignore the parts of Man that are Invisible to the physical dimensions of Man.
In fact, Skinner went so far as to suggest that people who believed in the MIND were practicing a "form of animism which serves no useful purpose in explaining present behavior." This is a quote found in a book by Richard I. Evans: B.F. Skinner: The Man and his ideas. Skinner was entirely wrong, but he was simply expressing the reasoning of a large number of people whose level of Consciousness [explained shortly] is evolved to that of an "Intellectual". Webster's defines intellectual: 1.a Of the intellect. b. Rational. 2. Appealing to or engaging the intellect. 3. Having superior intelligence.
Man has two means of understanding. One is via the brain and what the brain can perceive, which is called information. But the brain cannot grasp the unknown... because it must have something to "think" about to store and remember. This is the reason we must give phenomena labels and names... which the brain can remember. The brain is lost when it faces Invisible phenomena. Thus, in the Bible, one reads words such as Spirit, but these words are merely "labels" given to that which the brain cannot perceive nor experience.
So, since the majority of people in the West are educated to ignore the fact that both the MIND and the Soul of Man are "abstract labels"... neither of which provide us an experience of what these labels "stand for"... but we attribute an (imagined) existence to these terms and labels... and we pretend we "know" what they refer to!
This old sketch of mine illustrates the four separate dimensions which make-up the Whole of Man.
People who "think" like Skinner, and live their lives ignoring the fact that three-quarters of Man are invisible to them and just overlook the fact they are assuming an existence... based on no evidence. This is what Intellectualism is all about. This self-delusion based on symbols and labels is what mankind goes to war to defend.
And if anyone runs across a Bible or other Spiritually focused book that stresses the point that the terms Spirit, Holy Ghost [and other such terms] are assumptions ... who would read the books? Writers of such books simply ignore the fact that the Spirituality they are imagining with their labels and intellectual ideas, are not capable of conveying the Reality behind such terms. Who would read their books if the books were advertised as speculations?
So, today my purpose in this blog is simply to point out the fact that people differ in how much Consciousness they possess. And every Soul is exploring the Creation as a slow process of evolution. We refer to those people whose Souls have acquired "inner experience" of Spiritual Reality as "Enlightened". And what this difference represents is... some Souls are being pulled upward in terms of their acquisition of Consciousness... as they "Complete bits of Karma,' which serves to return quantities of Consciousness back to such Souls...in the form of Knowledge and Wisdom. And such Souls are subtly being "lifted" in the area of Consciousness by factors that are somewhat known in the East, and mostly unknown in the West. The Creation presents an endless selection of goodies for we Souls to acquire, or at lest desire. And the "cost" of this exploration of the things of Creation is a Soul's own Consciousness... as it is drawn into the Illusion of Creation. It is easy to view and think of the Creation as real.
At some point in the exploration process a Soul will begin to tire of the game of life on Earth. And that Soul will reach a point of saturation of the "stuff" of Creation," and will begin longing to go Home. It is at this point a Soul will be drawn to a Soul sent from the Spiritual Realm into the Creation specifically to draw such Souls to that Perfect Living Master. And that begins a long and difficult journey of every Soul that is being called Home. But, as I suggest, this process is not very important in the West... as yet.
