Fritz Perls was a most unusual student of Psychology, and he learned a great deal from his patients, and from Sigmund Freud himself... and, oddly enough, a number of important elements regarding the MIND that Freud himself failed to grasp. What accounts for this is that what Perls awakened to were elements of his own MIND that he Intuitively noticed and was Psychologically prepared to perceive .... but he did this via his faculty of Intuition (as part of his Consciousness)... [and his faculty of Intuition was (I believe) a special form of esoteric awareness located in the Consciousness of every person... but very few people are aware they possess a faculty of Intuition, which is associated with a person's Soul that has made substantial progress [over lifetimes] in "reacquiring" bits of Consciousness, or what I refer to as "NSgy"; which stands for Neutral Spiritual Energy. I believe that NSgy is the Energy of God and we Souls. But is is not of this "world"... that is, it is invisible to the brain and our physical senses.
I believe that Fritz Perls just happened to be a person with a highly advanced Soul, and he was therefore an Enlightened individual, and could empathically "see" something of of the workings of NSgy within those he was "treating". This is what made his work with people so effective in helping them release from deeply repressed traumata from within their MIND realms. Unfortunately, he did not live long enough to enable him to share what he had discovered... because to communicate with others he had to find words for what he was Intuitively awakening to from "within" himself. He could not easily explain in ordinary words what others could not readily comprehend [or Intuit themselves] by merely watching him work. People could not "see" the subtle energies passing between himself and those with whom he was working. Nor was there a "psychological structure" established that he could point to. What he was doing was forging an approach that was effective for him...because what he was doing was entirely invisible to others. The Gestalt movement lost steam shortly after Fritz passed on. What Fritz was doing was quite frightening to people like B.F. Skinner... who was quoted by Evans:
Let me add this:Modern psychology mirrors the fear and negativity of Skinner in the late 1930's, as intellectuals flooded into a field of psychology that decided a high level of intelligence was more important than having to engage in one's own therapy! Mental Health became filing out forms with labels of observed behaviors for insurance companies. Who needs the MIND?
When I was beginning my own work in the early 1960's, I was amazed to find how many homosexuals were being licensed as therapists and mental health workers. Mentally ill people being licensed to "help" other people who needed help with their own issues of sexual confusion. Talk about how crazy the field of psychology could get????
The closer one looks at what the field of psychology has morphed into... the more conflicted, confused and dislocated the field of psychology becomes. Intellectualism run wild, and who is in control of what it has become? Intellectuals who judge people by their IQ, and level of education.
Effective Psychotherapy is in no way associated with the brain, or one's IQ. It depends upon a person's level of Consciousness... or what I refer to as "NSgy," which stands fro Neutral Spiritual Energy.
A major re-construction and cleaning House.... needs to take place... NOW! We should begin by clearly dividing Psychotherapy from counseling, and other helping endeavors normal people with a caring heart can do. Gestalt Psychotherapy is a very specialized and effective form of therapy. And it requires a person with a fairly advanced level of Consciousness to want to engage in his or her own therapy... which opens that person to some emotionally painful "misperceptions" [my name for deeply repressed and negative thoughts about who and what one is... Every person has these "Misperceptions" locked away in his or her MIND. These are taken-on by one's MIND as part of the fully non-conscious structure of a person's personality... which is based on that person's past Karma [from his or her previous lifetimes]. But few people are aware of what I am saying here because in the West, and in America, we tend to ignore the Law of Karma, and ignoring the Law of Karma leaves us unprepared to discover a great many things about the whole of Man.
We could refer to those individuals who are naturally capable of engaging in the element of Intuition, which is awakening to sudden bits of understanding regarding the inner workings of the MIND... of others as well as their own MIND as a flash of sudden "insight". But this "Knowing" is an awareness of the substance and working of one's Consciousness [which is, I believe, an invisible form of Knowledge that one "senses as existing within another... as well as oneself"... but one is unable to verbally share or even explain what one has experienced.
I first witnessed this phenomena when I was teaching in a Mid-West University. About 50+ years ago, I was Initiated into a Spiritual Path (known as Sant Mat), or Path of the Saints... and this no doubt contributed to my desire to teach a group of non-art majors something other than an introduction to art. I had the idea that I would like to teach [or try to teach] these students the origin of Creativity... if I could? My attempt was great for me, but I believe it was a mixed bag for the students.
What I did [really presumptuous of me], was to read a passage from one of the many books I purchased for this adventure... and then I would explain what the author wanted to say... but could not. And in doing this [which I had never done before] I somehow found myself awakening to a good many things I had never previously realized. These insights were due to my awakened Intuition.
The most unusual thing many in the class discovered was that what I was sharing made sense to them, and there seemed nothing new in that. However, in a few class meetings, several of the students suddenly awakened to some unusual levels of understanding from "Within" themselves.
The students usually met in a spot outside the classroom . But at one point a very strange thing occurred! One student would come up to another student and say: "You know..." , and the other student would say: "I know exactly what you mean"! The thing is, neither of them could articulate what it was that both were sure they Knew!
I had never experienced this in my twelve years of teaching, so I was most curious as what was going on? And it took me about twenty years to discover the mechanics of what took place in that class with many of the students?
The strange thing is... the first student never said other than "You know...". And the student who responded said: "I Know exactly what you mean!" And each of them was convinced that what each of them had awakened to... was what he or she had experienced. The question is this: Can a person discover some bit of Truth from Within him or herself... and not be able to articulate what he or she has suddenly awakened to from "Within' him or herself? The answer was obviously yes.
What this portrayed was that "Intuition" is separate from the brain, and the brain has nothing to do with one's faculty of Intuition directly. Our Intuition enables we humans to awaken to bits of Truth from Within" ourselves... [from our Consciousness] that we may not have as yet acquired the experience with which to possess sufficient Knowledge with which to verbalize what we have Intuited.
We are clearly growing from "Within" ourselves as well as outside ourselves.
Amazing experience. It resulted in my being let go of my position, but I was not meant to teach Art.
There are at least four different dimensions or separate energy realms "Within" every person.
#1 is the physical realm with its brain. But the brain is entirely separate from the two dimensions of the MIND. And yet, modern psychology denies the MIND, which denies two important parts of the Whole of Man.
